A Poolside Retreat

There's truly nothing like a pool in your backyard. This project came to us via a referral. When these homeowners decided on a pool, they knew they needed a patio to go with it but weren’t sure how to complete the space.

The First Class Lawncare LLC team built an outdoor area that complemented the pool and provided plenty of room for relaxing, entertaining, and enjoying the outdoors.

Porcelain Pavers

The focal point of this project was the porcelain paver patio, which wraps around the entire pool, creating an open and inviting atmosphere. We used 20" x 40" white porcelain pavers from Delaware Hardscape Supply. Porcelain pavers give off a modern look while being durable and easy to maintain. The large format helped reduce the number of visible joints, creating an uninterrupted surface that smoothed out the overall design.

Retaining Sitting Wall 

To add dimension, we built a retaining sitting wall using Raffinato Wall Block in Smooth Greyed Nickel for structure and extra seating. Topped with Cambridge Crusader Wall Caps in Onyx Natural, the wall adds a refined touch to the patio while blending well with the clean lines of the porcelain pavers.

Landscaping with River Rock

Our landscaping services played an important role in tying the space together. We placed river rock from Delaware Hardscape Supply around key areas to help with drainage, adding texture and visual contrast. Fresh sod from Johnson Farms brought a lush, green element to the yard, while plants from Mill Pond Nursery softened the hardscape and introduced color. To pull the space together and make it pop, we installed outdoor lighting, highlighting the patio and landscaping while creating a warm atmosphere in the evening.

Challenge Accepted

Every project has its share of challenges and obstacles, but our team worked through them to keep everything on track. The homeowners wanted the patio to have a smooth, continuous look, meaning the joints between the porcelain pavers needed to blend as much as possible. Finding the right poly sand for the joints was challenging since most options were too dark against the white pavers. After testing several shades, we found a light gray that was the best match, achieving the client's desired subtle look.

Team Coordination

We coordinated and constantly communicated with the pool company to complete the project without any extra delays. Working with another team to complete a project for one of our clients is always rewarding. Part of our process is knowing what outside resources we need and establishing relationships with them to serve our clients best. 

Outdoor Lighting Takes the Stage

As the project progressed, the homeowners decided on more outdoor lighting than initially planned. This required adjustments—removing and reinstalling wall caps, running extra wiring, and making modifications—but the stunning final result made it all worthwhile. Our landscape lighting services helped make this space spectacular, day or night.

Poolside Living Redefined

With every project, our final goal is client satisfaction. We want our clients to love their homes and their outdoor spaces. In this case, the finished project turned an empty backyard into a personal vacation spot. The large porcelain patio, retaining sitting wall, and intentional landscaping allowed our clients to relax and unwind in or out of the water.

This stunning patio is a prime example of the rising popularity of porcelain pavers. Given that they are both aesthetically pleasing and affordable, it's no surprise that porcelain pavers are the way of the future, at least outdoors.
